At School of Government and Public Policy – Indonesia, we see partnerships and strategic alliances as means to connect the people of Indonesia to the region and to the world. On Friday, February 5th, 2016, we welcomed a visit by Professor Jeffrey A. Winters, Ph.D. to our campus in Sentul, Bogor. Professor Winters is the Director of Equality, Development and Globalization Studies (EDSG) Program at Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, Northwestern University. This is a precursory visit to explore the possibility of a joined program between SGPP-Indonesia and Northwestern University.
The Dean of SGPP-Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Azhar Kasim, MPA along with advisor and distinguished faculty member, Gita Wirjawan personally greeted and welcomed Professor Winters, a well-known figure in Indonesia. In the meeting, Professor Kasim introduced the Master of Public Policy program at SGPP-Indonesia, with its heavy emphasis on developing the needed skills in facing globalizing world.
Professor Winters currently serves as the chairman of Indonesian Scholarship and Research Support Foundation, an initiative to support Indonesian scholars to pursue doctoral degrees at Northwestern University. With this initiative, Professor Winters hopes to see more Indonesian scholars pursuing their higher education in the U.S. and bring contribution to Indonesian society, politics, and economics by producing subsequent generations of well-trained scholars.
After visiting SGPP, Professor Winters will discuss with his team at Northwestern University on how this initial discussion could be followed up. He is hopeful about the prospect of SGPP-Indonesia becoming a new institution that meets the demand of world-class higher education in Indonesia.
SGPP-Indonesia is designed to become a regionally prominent and internationally recognized institution of education, training and research in the fields of public policy and public affairs. The school is currently looking into opportunities to enrich its Master of Public Policy program such as joint research and visiting scholars.
