Masterclass on Oligarchic and Elite Theory: Insights into Indonesia Politics

This short intensive course will examine contemporary Indonesian politics through the lens of oligarchic and elite theories. These approaches are extremely helpful for understanding the roles of different major actors, relations among oligarchs and elites, and the implications for Indonesian democracy and governance.

Globalization Studies Program. Author of the globally influential prize winning book,
Oligarchy (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
This course will be a combination of lectures-seminar discussions. Readings for the course will be assigned and distributed two months in advance so that students have enough time to prepare and absorb the readings and concepts. The course will be 5 days long (Monday through Friday), with a session in the morning, followed by lunch, and a session in the afternoon.
